Why have your own VPN?

Ok, so let’s start at the beginning, with, what is a VPN?

A VPN is a Virtual Private Network which allows you to access the Internet within a secure tunnel, that helps keep the data you’re accessing private and secure.

The term VPN has become commonplace with the rise of streaming services such as NetFlix and Amazon Video, as you can also use them to access UK services when you’re abroad (although, why do you want to watch the TV on holiday?).

In a business setting, a VPN is used to keep your data secure and to access resources which might be located in your office premises or data centre, such as servers, file shares and licensing servers.

We love the use of a VPN whilst using public Wi-Fi networks, as public Wi-Fi is notoriously insecure, Using a VPN really helps make your computer and your traffic that bit more private, although it must be said the only way to stay truly safe in public Wifi networks is to simply not use them at all.

You can host your VPN services using the right type of Internet router, which is perfect for businesses who do have the need to either keep traffic secure when remote working, or to access services/devices on the office network when working from home.

Using the right hardware for reliability is key, you don’t want to go to all the effort of putting things in place, only to find your VPN service is unreliable due to using the right type of product. Setting up and maintaining a VPN is straightforward, with the right expertise, and the right hardware.
