Feb 2023: The end of another week
So here we are, the end of another week in business (well, it’s actually Friday morning at the time of writing), which brings us to mid-February 2023.
This week we’ve had a flurry of new laptops and computers to set up, along with a handful of repairs to do on some older computers. Feels like a lot of hardware has come our way, with the office quite stacked up on our work benching area.
Alongside the new and old computer setups, we’re also been busy setting up a super 1GB Router for a new Leased Line connection, and backup line. The networking side of things is always a particular favourite of mine, there’s just something nice about a well ran network.
We’ve taken the difficult decision this week to stop supplying new Unifi wireless kit (apart from the few items we have in stock). The number one reason for this isn’t anything to do with the quality of the kit, it’s due to supply issues which have been ongoing for the best part of eighteen months. As we can only get our hands on one model of the wireless access point, it just doesn’t make sense to even spend the time trying to supply these items anymore. We’ll be moving forward with TP-Link wireless kit from this day forth (more to follow on that front).
Having reflected on January, we’ve started working with a new customer in Worcestershire on a monthly basis (covering all their IT support, network support and Office 365 services) which is always nice, and we’ve got another proposal under consideration as well, which would also be great news if that comes to fruition.
This week for me personally, felt a little manic. I’ve “stop-start-stop-stat” a lot, and felt like I’ve travelled around a fair bit as well. I’ve been logging how I’m spending my work time, in 15-minute blocks, so I will be spending some time reflecting on this, to see exactly how productive I’ve been, and what I can change to spend more time on one task alone, without multiple distractions.
Today I’m planning on attacking my remaining tasks of the week, reviewing some of our helpdesk performance reporting and making sure I finish off the day at a good time to take the eldest off to dance lesson.
