A mini Covid-19 update for 2021

Well, here we are in 2021, with not much difference to 2020.

If anything, from a Covid perspective, things may even be worse than they were in 2020, as we enter another lockdown.

From a business perspective though, for us here at Lucid Towers (an empty Lucid Towers), it’s business as “normal”.

We started home working just before the March 2020 Lockdown, and the entire team has been home working ever since. Whilst there were times when we might have brought people back to the office (from memory – July/August time, and again in October) I didn’t want to jump into that as I always thought there would be bumps in the road – and I didn’t want to mess my team around by sending them back and forth all the time. Just as well, as we enter the third lockdown and the government backtracking on their “return to work” message in 2020.

Homeworking has worked really well for us – all the team are equipped with exactly the same tools as they have at the office. Our phones operate in the same way (you just gotta love VOIP) and all the software we use, we’ve always been able to use from anywhere anyway.

Personally, I’ve stuck to working at the office. There are a number of reasons, some of them are self-explanatory, and some you may not be aware of, such as:

  • We have multiple deliveries every single day – and we don’t want to take such deliveries in people’s homes (some of our deliveries come on pallets etc)
  • We have customers drop off (safely) items with us, and we operate a collection service as well, something I wouldn’t want to do from home
  • There has only been me at the office since March 2020 – so there is no risk I’m silently passing the virus onto the rest of my team, as they aren’t there and I don’t allow customers or couriers into the office itself
  • I have a four-year-old – making home working somewhat testing (I completely appreciate people are home working with the same aged children, I simply have the option of working from the office safely, so I do)

Overall things have gone well so far, there has been ups and downs along the way, and I still think there could be more twists and turns yet, but we’ll continue to do what we do – taking one day and one week at a time, doing the best we can.

I’d like to take the opportunity to once again thank our loyal customers, who without their support, we simply wouldn’t be here – thank you from all of us.

Stay safe, the end is in sight, let’s just all work our way through things as best as we can.

Thanks,

Gavin.
