Microsoft 365 Copilot: A summary

AI is the buzzword of 2025. There are plenty of AI offerings out there, to help businesses. Microsoft 365 Copilot is part of the existing 365 system. If you’re already using 365 for your email and documents, you may already have access to Copilot. Microsoft 365 Copilot can help you get to the bottom of problems, or provide you with a summary of a document, for example.

In this article, we’ll explore some of the benefits of using Microsoft 365 Copilot and how it might help your business.

Getting more done, in less time

You can make use of Copilot to automate repetitive administration tasks, which frees up your time for you to work on other things. Copilot can schedule meetings, manage your email and draft documents for you (such as this article for example). We find it useful for creating drafts of documents or guides to help us with our IT Support operations and creating documentation for capturing details. You can provide Copilot with a lengthy document and ask it to give you a short, concise summary.

Analysing figures, giving you a headline summary

You can Copilot within the Microsoft Office applications, such as Excel, to review the data in the file, and provide information about trends, forecasts and provide its recommendations. It can pull together the data you have in your files, and compare that with data which is available online, for comparison purposes.

Responding to customers, via email or a chatbot

You can set up Copilot to interact with customers, through email replies or chatbots. This might help your business improve the customer service experience, and free up time so it can be used elsewhere in the business. 

Is it secure?

Microsoft 365 Copilot offers robust security features to protect sensitive information. With built-in compliance tools and advanced security measures, Copilot ensures that your business data is safe and secure. In a similar fashion to how file access works in Sharepoint or One Drive, you only have access to Copilot, and what Copilot can query, based on your login credentials for Microsoft 365. For example, if an employee doesn’t have access to the Finance folder, they can’t use Copilot to access the data within it and query it.

Microsoft 365 Copilot is more than just a virtual assistant; it’s a powerful tool that can transform the way your business operates. By boosting productivity, improving decision-making, streamlining operations and enhancing customer experience. There will be a use case for it to be used in any business. However, as with any AI tool, what it gives you, is only as good as what you put into it.
